Does anyone know what the grey wire that sticks out at both ends of the electrical wire harness cable is for? It does not connect to anything on either end and the Mercury motor manual shows it but does not indicate what it is for. Do you think that the cable is used for other motors too that may have additional accessories.

Well, I am planning on installing a tach. The harness has the secondary harness that is supposed to be for a tach. Is there other hardware that is necessary at the engine side that this wire is supposed to connect too? I was hopeing that I could just plug the adapter into the tach harness and go to town.

I just looked in Seloc. They call the wire "tan". Does that help?

Has the secondary harness got an unused three wire plug? If so, the wires should be purple(ignition hot), grey (tach signal) and black (ground).

Don't rely on the seloc, get a genuine manual. IMO.

Aldo
