03 4 stroke 50hp cold start question

I am about to buy a 2003, possibly 2004, 4 stroke Yamaha 50 hp electric start. The guy says it is hard starting when cold. I looked this up and found a few things online all with conflicting opinions.

Are these engines hard to start when cold?

I hear they do not have a traditional choke, how do I choke it?

Is there a trick to help it start?

Are there any other items I should look at/for before I buy it?
