Hi,

I am experiencing some problems with shifting into reverse. I have already eliminated the controls, cables, cable adjustments, and engine shift linkage and shaft. The clutch dog never slips out of gear once it has engaged. The engine shifts smoothly when on the hose, but when in a test tank or in the water it is difficult to shift into reverse, it skips unless you shift it just right. It makes no difference whether it's tried from the controls or directly from the linkage with the cable off. I am aware that you need to really throw an outboard into gear quickly. What in the gear case might possibly be an issue that I should be looking for when I pull the prop shaft?

Yes I have a manual but the Suzi one isn't anywhere near as good as the J&E ones when it comes to trouble shooting non-electrical issues.

Thanks

Also, no shavings at all on the drain plugs and zero water in the oil. Currently running quicksilver 90 gear oil.
