'03 johnzuki 115, DF owners, is this normal?

I have an '03 that I bought and fixed but I haven't been able to get it on the water yet, engine runs fine at idle, I have only been able to test it with a hose and when I open the throttle and the motor gets to 2-3K RPM the engine starts to fail.

I think that has something to do with the S.L.O.W. mode, is this a normal thing since the motor has no load on it? or it may be something else?

you shouldn't be running the motor that high on a garden hose, not enough water flow.

Start with the basics.
compression
timing
spark check
fuel filters
sync and link

thanks for your reply Jason, I didn't do it for a long time, just a few seconds and when it starts doing it I put it back in neutral.

all those things are checked and fine, I replaced hight and low pressure fuel pumps and filters, spark plugs, impeller, thermostat, PRV, cranckase oil and filter and more. Pretty much everything was replaced on the fuel system but the inyectors, but they checked out fine.

I was just wondering if that could be part of the SLOW mode since there is no load on the motor.

Its normal, should wind up just fine on the water. Somehow connected to revving in neutral.

your rev limiter is kicking in.

update, I got the boat on the water this weekend and it run just fine, so it has to do with the SLOW system kicking in when the motor has no load on it, thanks everybody for your replys.
