Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and new to Yamaha motors. I'm looking to buy a bout with 03' Yamaha 175 HPDI engine. Knowing there was a problem with the engine, I went to check out the boat. Ran a compression check and the top 2 cylinders had 0 compression. The others had 80-80-75-80. Id assume the engine had a problem getting oil to the top 2 cylinders but the other cylinders seem a little low in compression aswell. Does anyone have experience with these engines and know of this being a common problem?

Id say I'm about average on working on boat motors. My dads has experience rebuilding boat motors. Rebuilding ourself was a thought that crossed our minds. Itd be the only way I buy the boat with that intent in mind. I feel like its a huge gamble to do so though

My guess would be ran lean on fuel ,over heated, and melted some pistons.
block and/or crank may not be good.
best to plan on the worst case and need a new power head.
HP pump, injectors, etc
