Please bare with me first post.
I have 2003,200HP HPDI. have had the motor since new has run flauless make sure it has good fuel and clean. Have now a oil tank to tank issue .The oil pump on the storage tank has failed. I have 12 v going to pump with the switch . Put 12 vots to pump wires and it just sparks no pump turn on. I got that part, but want to check to see that sending unit on engine tank is telling the pump to come on.Tryed to simulate Buy turning the ingnition switch on and rasing the sender up out of oil tank to see if I get 12 volts to pump it is not happening was wondering if the engine has to be running for the ECM to tell the pump to fill the tank?Would like to check the system before I start changing parts.I have voltmeters and test lights and jumpers to test different compomets of that system.any one have a wireing diagram or trouble shooting process?
Thanks

You are thinking the float works like the float in your toilet but it doesn't. There is three magnetic switches built into the shaft the float is sliding on. Bottom switch turns on the alarm and red light. Middle switch turns off the alarm plus tells the ECM to start pumping. Top switch tells the pump top stop. Also, the pump will stop pumping in the auto mode when about 1/3 full. Then you have to use the manual switch to transfer the oil.

From what I understand oil pump should have 12 + any time key is in the on position,
and the oil control module runs the pump by controlling the negative(-)

Also the level switches also run to the oil control module

Thanks for the come back
so if i understand you ,the engine has to be running for the ECM to tell the oil pump to pump oil intthe service thank on engine . If I crank up the engine and lift the sensor slow the oil pump should turn on . It would not with just the ignition switch on right?

Be sure the tank in the boat is full turn ignition switch to on, toggle the manual pump switch on the engine. The engine tank should start filling. Once the tank reaches about half way, release the toggle and the automatic system should take over.

Just so every one knows.
I replaced the oil pump and the strainer. I Toggeled the the oil pump till i had the line primed. Then I started the engine (with muffs) the pump automaticlyfilled the tank to the full line . took the boat out on a 25 mile ride and worked great.

Thanks for all UR help.
