Nice. I guess we are supposed to sit here 24/7, then guess at what the heck we are talking about with only a part number to go by, having no idea what it looks like. Then be criticized for not helping. Sometimes I wonder why......

F_R, you probably know this already, but I think he's talking about some kind of tensioner spring for the carb linkage.

Regardless, if he's unhappy with the haste at which his questions are answered, I'm sure he's always welcome to request a refund of his membership dues from the administrators... :D;)

If he would have posted a pic of it , it would have made it a lot simpler. I took a look at it and know what it's for but I'm not posting it here. I don't kiss and tell. LOL !!

Rogers, good reply.

The beauty of the whole thing is that he has had over a hundred posts and knows that we can read minds.

No the problem here is you all pick and chose who you want to help out. If the question is something you are interested in you will jump right in there and help. Seen it a million times on here. When someone needs help with something it shouldn't come down to you having to be interested in the question to lend a hand. I see after my last post on here you all really got right in here to start bashing me. Wish I could have gotten that kind of interest with my question ,would have been awesome. You all don't care a bit to jump in here to bash someone it's like a gang beatdown. Yes that's something you all can be interested in as it seems. Have a great day....

It's NOT a matter of picking an choosing who you will give answers to (all of us don't know you or the next poster from Adam). What it comes down to is a matter of the person who has the CORRECT answers being ONLINE to see the question.

I'm anything but an expert when it comes to these larger outboards. When I read your first post, it sounded as though you had lost or broken the spring in question, and was concerned that it was NLA. That's why I offered up the link to Marine engine. I later saw you had the spring, but the question was on its need and use. I'm not qualified to answer that, like I said I don't have much experience with these engines. I assume most of the others who may have peaked in at this thread probably felt the same way (would you rather have them give you the WRONG answer?).

17 Hrs later, you threw a tantrum because you didn't get any answers. 2 hours after that F_R (a man fully qualified to answer your question) was logged on, but saw your melt down in post 7.

People have lives man.
They have work, they have kids, they have obligations far greater than iBoats, and can't be on here constantly to answer every single question that pops up with in a 24hr window.

Patience is a virtue my friend...

Not to beat a dead horse here but when you post a part number and no picture or much detail you put the onus on the experts to lookup exactly what part you're talking about and do a fair amount of research. This being a site for free help I think providing as much information to the experts upfront is critical to getting a good response. Sure beats paying a mechanic $100 an hour to take a look. And the OP doesn't reflect the opinions of the less than mechanically skilled who come here for help. We appreciate any and all help you guys provide us.

Re: 0314807 - spring, nla

Hello Im new and just saw this post, and hope I can help. Yes the spring is necessary its the return spring for the throttle blades when in neutral. My boats throttle linkage bolt backed out while I was on the river the other day. When this happened the boat basically would go into reverse and forward but would not go faster then idle. So I pull into the closest dock and start checking things out. Found the bolt, washer, and sleeve and throttle linkage hanging to the side. Put it back on and thought I was good to go. That wasnt the case though, It was now idling very high in N and would slam into gear but once it was in gear it ran fine until you would go back into neutral, then it would rev back up. Started looking to see what was going on and found the springs end with the curve was not hooked up to anything. After scratching my head trying to figure out where it went I finally wrapped it up and back around the inside of the roller that the throttle linkage cam rolls on. Linkage now returns by itself and runs normal. OP prob figured it out but maybe someone else will have the problem down the road.

Mike
