Got a 2004 merc 2 stroke with no instruction manual as to how to properly use priming and fast idle for cold starts. Do you pull primer and leave it untill it starts? Or pull it and push back in and try to start? How come no choke on this newer motor? What would be the best cold starting in cold weather sequence for this motor?

You don't have a choke because you have a primer. You pull-push a couple times to "force" fuel into the engine. But here's the sequence:

1) Squeeze the primer bulb (the one on the fuel line) until it firms up. Doesn't need to be rock hard -- just firm. Ensure the vent is open on the fuel tank (if it has a vent knob).
2) Pull-Push the primer a couple of times.
3) Set throttle to START
4) Make sure the kill switch lanyard is installed.
5) Pull the cord. DO NOT run to the next county with the pull cord. Pulling to it's full extension can damage the recoil assembly or break the cord. Likewise -- DO NOT let the cord "snap" back. Guide it back.
6) If the engine doesn't start on two or three pulls, give it another shot with the primer. You will need to experiment with the number of shots as no two engines are the same in that regard.
7) With the engine initially running, it may tend to die down like it wants to quit -- especially when real cold. Give a quick shot on the primer to keep it going.
