Hi everyone,

I guess it's time to revive this one on this forum. Can I hear from you that have a very similar boat using a 115hp 4 stroke engine? I would like to know what prop you all are currently using and how it performs for you.

I have a post up in the prop forum but only got one answer about a prop usage with a comparable setup but I'd like to see if I can get a few different (3 blade, 4 blade, aluminum, stainless, did you have to try different prop makers to find one you liked, etc...) comparisons.

I'll save the cross post and keep it short on this forum and just ask what prop you use and if it's performing satisfactorily for you. If you'd like to read about why I'm asking such, you can see the post up in the prop forum.

Thanks for any help!
Andy

Re: '04 Angler 1700 SS prop performance

In a bit of a hurry to get on the water I see.
I think you should have a prop that allows you to run at your max rpm, period. Do you fish in stumpy rocky waters a lot? Some pole benders only run aluminum props in that situation because the impact transmitted through stainless steel could damage more than the prop. I do not know anyone running a 4 blade on a 115. What prop do you have know? Are you maxed out on rpm's at wide open throttle right now? What kind of outboard do you have? Yamaha offers performance bulletins to address many questions about expected performance.http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/products/perfbull.aspx
Some boat builders do as well. I run a 150 VMAX 2 stroke on a 17' Fish.
I alternate between a 19 and a 21 aluminum. Would love a stainless to run on some waters. Just keep at very close to max rpm's at wot and you'll be running fairly effiecient I would think.

LOL... Wanting my boat to run right when I do get out. ;)

Good web site link you posted. Thanks!

I run a 2004 Johnson and the prop I have now is a 13 1/2 x 15 and what I believe to be the one installed when the boat was new (2004 model boat & engine, I'm the second owner). At about 80% physical throttle range, I hit the rev limiter of about 6300 rpm. Not to mention the typical ventilation problems (blowing out more like it). I'm running so far over my rev limiter that I'm having difficulty knowing where to start because I'm likely just on the hook to buy a prop just to try it.

Thanks for the web link and reply Paul,
Andy

Whoa, you need some pitch. If you figure 150 to 200 rpm's for every 2" of pitch (that's what I see in mine), it sounds like you could run a 19, which could put you around 5900 rpm, but you would still have a bit of physical throttle movement left. Yamaha says 5500 is max rpm's on mine, but I've read the rev limter will not kick in till 6100 or so. Maybe yours is similar, rev limiter at 6300, but the book says high fives for max rpm?

The place I bought my boat has offered to let me try out different props, as long as I leave my credit card. Maybe a kind owner out your way will do the same.

That 15 prop may come in handy when you have a big load. With more pitch you will propbably loose some hole shot too, but gain a little on top end.

Re: '04 Angler 1700 SS prop performance

Thanks again Paul. I'm guessing my hole shot would be fine if I could "hook up". But just to make sure, I'm considering a 4 blade stainless.

Full throttle range is 5000 to 6000 RPMs and the max power is made at 5500 rpms. For the life of me, I can't find the published rev limiter spec again, but if I recall correctly, last year the tach was right around 6300 when the limiter started kicking in. The tach may be off a little as it seems many are, but with a max throttle published at 6000 rpms, I'm not even close.

I'm still working on how to find that "kind" owner/shop. I may have located one though. We'll see how it goes...

I have a 1700 prosport with a 90 4s.I run aluminum 13.25 x 17 and the revs are right but I'm at 3700'.A 15 is way to low a pitch.Hard to guess the right 4 blade.I would find the right 3 blade before worrying about a 4.
