My uncle just bought a new loaded Chevy 3500 duley to use as a roach coatch (canteen truck)
Its to replace his '99 Chevy that got set on fire.

Its got the allison tranny and the big 502 under the hood.

I've been loading, unloading and rideing with him on the roach coatch this summer.

Him and I where woundering what kind of gas milage we can expect with this thing. The factory numbers are useless to us because its going to have the big canteen body on it full of ice and stuff.

Do any of you own one of these trucks? What kind of gas milage do you get with a load?

The 8.0 gets around 11-12 stock average. I own a 2004 5.3 and frequent a silverado forum. I'd expect around 8 with that loaded body on it, lower if it's going to sit and idle to provide electric, etc.

The http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ does not list anything over a half ton. The 8100 cc is truely a beast of a motor and will probably get 8-12 mpg. The diesel version coupled with the allison gets about 12-14 mpg.

One thing is for sure I doubt he will run out of torque. Vortec 8100 is rated 330 hp@4200 rpm and 450 ftlbs of torque @ 3200 rpm.

Bob
