My 2005 Mercury 60 Bigfoot 2 stroke lost power and wont run over 3200 rpm in water. First when home I unhooked the fuel hose from the engine and pumpped fuel into a clean bucket. I found my fuel line was coming apart inside. I removed and replaced the primer bulb, hoses and the fuel filter under the engine cowl. I also removed the fuel pump and disassembled it and found very few but small pieces of the rubber fuel line. After getting engine back together and running on hose pipe its only running on 1 and 3cylinders. I unplug the coils one at a time and 2 makes no difference. The engine dies when I unplug #1. I ran a compression test and they are all 125psi. I swapped the #3 and #2 spark plugs with the same results #2 makes no difference. I installed a spark tester on #2 cylinder with engine running and it is firing good. Do you think it could be carburator related. Thanks for any and all help

Re: 05 60 bigfoot 2 stroke lost power

Well after thinking and rethinking I decided to go out and remove carbs and check for trash from the fuel line. I found no trash but #2 and #3 carbs had stuck float needles. So that answers my question about adding stabil back in the fall. After cleaning and installing carbs I ran it on the hose and immediately could tell it was better. The trottle response it more crisp and it throws water out the prop further when I reved it. I unplug all coils now and all change rpms. I need to put in the lake befor I know for sure but I think my problem is resolved. Hope this helps some of you out there.

did you check the hoses from the fuel pump to the carb just to be safe in the near future?

GOOD JOB!!!! I am seeing more and more needle problems swelling and sticking in the carb engines, even if a stablizer is used. Most of the carbs that stick have the orange tipped inlet needles, and the newer "compatiable" needles are grey/silver tipped. Usually the engines have set-up a week or longer with a ethanol blend fuel and I now tell my customers to run carbs dry if possible....

Re: 05 60 bigfoot 2 stroke lost power

I did blow out all the fuel lines between the carbs with carb cleaner and compressed air. I dont like the idea of unhooking the fuel line and running the carbs dry but I will remove all 3 plugs in the float bowls this fall. Its been raining out today and more of the same untill late week so I probably wont make it to the lake untill Saturday but at least I can rest feeling confident that its fixed. I had an older inline 6 115 on a bass boat that burnt a piston because of a broken fuel line between the carbs and it starved for fuel before I noticed a loss of power. This fuel that were buying is causing all sorts of problems in engines that sit like stated earlier and to my surprise all the pasages were clear just my needles gummed and stuck. My carbs have the grey tipped needles. Does anyone have any experience with seafoam fuel additive with this ethanol fuel? Thanks
