05 Yamaha V-Max HPDI starting problems

Hi Guys,

Im having some real difficulty starting my V-Max HPDI when its in the water. I have to turn it over a number of times and use the choke to get it going. I need to keep it idling real high for about 1 min before it will be able to idle at nomal ranges.
It starts fine if I turn it over a few minutes after it has been running but as soon as it sits for 20 mins or so it again gives me problems starting. After the boat starts the motor runs like it was new, giving me full power and smooth acceleration .
I have changed all my plugs, replaced the fuel lines and primer bulb. Fuel filter was replaced as well.
Im planning on taking the motor in to a marine mechanic in 3 weeks but would like to have an idea of he might have to do.

if you have a Vmax HPDI and it wont start its simply broke.
get it to a TRAINED tech and let them fix it.
you CANNOT use the choke cause on HPDI it simply does not exist on the motor .

Ok Im not much up on motors.. hence I post here on iBoats to get some info.

So if anyone has some info that can actually help me not belittle that would be much appreciated.

Scott, I have a 05, 200 hpdi. I think what Robolt is trying to tell you is if you don't know the motor take it to someone that does. I have learned alot about the ins and outs of my HPDI and some of the mistakes I've made from Rodbolt. I can do some simple things but If it goes beyond that I take it to a tech, Sounds like you've done a few simple things and it may be best to wait until the tech can help you figuire it out

Well Im not going to try and fix it myself, I posted that and apparently Rodbolt missed that. Im just wondering some possible problems that may be occuring and then do some reading on it...thats it

trust me I was not belittling you nor trying to attack you. your motor is simply broke and its a very complex beast that requires a number of test harnesses,a DVM and a service manual and a tune up spec guide and a working knowledge of direct fuel injection,efi injection and electronics.
thanks to the US taxpayers I am well versed in electronics.
hence the FC2 USN RET behind some of my signatures.
when you hit that YAMAHA shop make sure the certificates are on the wall for a minimum of Fuel and Electrical.
if they are not PLEASE find another shop.

I took it the wrong way Rodbolt, my apologies. It will be going in to the shop and I'll make sure its a qualified tech. Thanks for the advice
