its an 06 yamaha i rebuilt the carbs for a buddy of mine who was in a hurry to get them done it was a sunday day before gator season started and he broke down and needed them done that night. by the time i was finished he was ready to go so i said run it and let me know how it does. Never synced it........i went out gator hunting with him this past weekend and noticed that it was running a little lean. when we got back to the house i pulled the plugs and they were white with only a light hardly existent tan color. got the manual and timed it right took it for a test spin and everything was good. my question is do you think any damaged could of been done in 12hrs of running it a little lean and should/could i take any further precautions to help correct any damaged that i may of caused if there was any. and is there any way to tell if there was any damage done thanks in advance..

If it's running fine now, I'd doubt there's any damage done. Maybe check your plugs now to ensure they're that tan color. Good Luck!

Not sure what you mean by timed it right to fix a lean running motor.

If you turned the pilot screws out a little to give it a little more mix, then I do not think that small amount would hurt the motor as the main jets give the major amount of fuel while running. The pilots are mainly for idle and off idle.
Just my 2 cents

The timing was to far advanced wouldn't that make it lean?

Re: 06 yamaha 50hp question

Lean means that there is not enough fuel to the air in the cylinder.

Too far advanced will put too much downward force on the piston while it is trying to go to TDC. (Spark too early and the fuel is being burned before all the way up)
This can put too much force on pistons causing damage to them and the wrist pins.
How far was it out?

so technically it wasn't too lean just sparking to early is that correct? It wasn't really far out of spec they give you a plus 3 minus 1 for the spec but it was past the mark on the cdi box at WoT you could just slightly hear it while riding. Would that cause the plugs to be white?

Re: 06 yamaha 50hp question

What did the timing light show then and now?

the mark on the CDI is just a reference point, but you always need to check with a light to be sure of the real timing.
I had to change my CDI out because the idle timing was 14 ATDC instead of 7 ATDC even though it was on the mark on CDI. Had a bad idle

I am not sure if too far advanced timing will cause plugs to burn white or not.

didn't check with a light before. put a light to it after adjusting the arm on cdi and ran it and with light it read 25 btdc on the money. thanks for the input.
