I have 99 200 0x66 out boards purchased last year used. both run great so far. There was suppose to be about 50 hrs on the engines when purchased. The engine was fogged, lower unit oil changed, you know the routine winterization thing.mThe question is; Is there anyting else that I should do to head off any potential problems before they occer? Re: 0x66 generic maintnance question

hello
yes
make sure the VST filter gets maint. make sure the O2 sensor gets maint to include a running output voltage test after cleaning. and replace the low pressure pumps every three years. replace the water pump,t-stats and pressure valve grommet at least every other year.
follow the 100 and 200,6month and yearly schedules. it says 6monthsOR 100 hours and annually OR every 200 hours in the service schedule. its very rare to have a failure if this schedule is followed. engine hours are usually not considered in low hour engine failures. an engine that is 4 years old with 50 hours is always a neglected time bomb. never fails. I would rather see an engine with 300 hours a year and scheduled maint than one that is 5 years old with fifty hours.
two strokes dont wear like 4 strokes. the subsystems degrade with age and neglect regardless of hours of use and cause a mechanical failure.
I dont design them I just fix them
and above all pray you have a tech that will observe things

Rodbolt: I agree with your comment about most Yamaha Techs...........They all seem to know little.

Last spring when I mentioned my hesitation on my 250 Ox66 to a Tech at CT largest dealer , they all looked at me with a dazed look and said "Water in the gas"....I told them this was all checked and even I suggested a clogged VST filter. They still looked at me puzzled and basically had NO ideas as to why.

I know many people who just drop their boats off at these dealerships, only to get them back still broken with multiples bills mounting.

Just curious, About how much do you think all of this maintainance will cost?

Re: 0x66 generic maintnance question

that really depends on who does it. takes me about 4 hours and the parts can range anywhere fom 50 to 150.

Another curiosity, I didnt see anything in the maintanance schedule about changing impeller. Is it named differently?

look under 200 hours OR anually
water pump inspection or replacement. look carefully at the service guide and note the service intraverls are in hours AND dates. whichever occurs first
