hello all. I am still in the planning and demo stage of replacing deck and stringers. My question is the floor that is in there now is 1/2" thick. I heard 3/4 is better but im afraid that when I put the cap back on the deck might be to tall for the molded in bow floor, is 1/2" good, or should I use 1/2 under the bow and 3/4 everywhere else? which brings me to my next question, when I started demoing the deck I noticed the deck under the bow and the molded in bow deck sat on top of each other with carpet in between. should I do the same or but some kind of foam strips in its place? i dont want the two to rub together. thanks for all your advice.

What kind of boat? In general 1/2" is fine, but without even knowing what kind of boat we are talking about its just a guess.

For me the 1/2" is plenty and you don't need the extra weight. If you ask how much could it be? go to the lumber yard pick up a sheet of 1/2 and then 3/4 then times the difference by a min. of 4 example from the transom fwd. guessing around a 71/2' beam just under 2 sheets aft same thing midships and the last 3 feet if cut right 1 or approx. 4 sheets of weight with an approx 25 # difference maybe more is a 100 pounds worth it

Thanks for the advice, I like the less weight. How about the section in between the deck and the bow deck. Should I put foam strips down. I know if I lay it on top of each other eventually they're going to rub a hole through each other, thanks

I'm of the mind of recreating the Mfg. setup as I get older I try not to reinvent the wheel, but guessing by your description I'm thinking a couple of hard plastic strips good wear point and water proof
