Not sure where to ask but as in the past with my 40 ski twin someone out there might be able to answer my question...I picked up a small motor over the weekend a 1.2hp gamefisher model #298-585120 (sears) wondering what the year is as well as gas/oil mixture. I'm guessing the gear oil would be a 90 weight...Thx

I will move this to "Other Brand" outboards. you'll get some expert responses there.

Google the Tanaka distributor (the actual builder of the engine--Tanaka--branded it for Sears) 'Tanaka USA' IIRC. Last time I ordered parts for one (2-3 years ago) they had every part on hand to build a complete new motor except for the sediment bowl on the fuel petcock. But the DID have complete petcocks available! HTH, Tom

Re: 1.2hp Gamefisher

I've run a Tanaka/Gamefisher/Sears 3HP for 25 years now and use 50:1 gas/oil ratio. I also run some Ringfree to help reduce carbon in ports and keep rings from sticking. Use marine 90Wt. lower unit gear oil in the gear case. These are great little motors, too bad you can't buy them new in the USA any more, something about FDA/polution? Well, what about all the weed-eaters, blowers, chain saws? Anyway, good luck with your motor!

Re: 1.2hp Gamefisher

IIRC the Tanaka recommended fuel/oil mix for the 1.2 is 1 part of aircooled 2 cycle oil like you would run in your weedeater or chainsaw to 32 parts gas, but the one we keep at my buddys' river lot gets by quite cheerfully on 24/1 and seems destined for immortality.:D Remember----while too little oil will shorten the life of a 2 cycle motor dramatically there is no such thing as "too much oil"! And oil is much cheaper than parts or new motors.;) Tom
