Re: 1.5 millon Boat, bad start

I posted a while ago about a boat I maintained falling out of the lift but the old Chris Crash just bobbed up after hitting the water. Since the owner is now dead I'll tell you it wouldn't have hurt my feelings if it had gone under.

Hate to have been on the lift at the time.

Thanks for the video even though I don't speak spanish. (I guess) that's the lanquage.

HI all, new guy here. Didn't need to speak spanish to feel bad for that crane op. In any language that is a terrible site to see. It was beautiful.

I wonder how long that boat sat in the water. From the scum that you can see in the pictures it looks like it was underwater for weeks.

That right there brought tears to my eyes. Though I may never own one of those, if that was my boat and I witnessed it, I probably would have had a heart attack on the spot.

That was just a test for the TV mounts... Success!! They held up nicely.

They must have not paid much attention to the sling markers.......or the markers were wrong !

It wasn't the position of the slings. The crane operator lowered the boat while the stern was partly over the pier causing it to slip out of the slings.

All of the boat dropping videos I have seen has one strap slipping out of position. An adjustable rod or pipe between the straps to hold the relative distance between the straps would have prevented the slippage and subsequent losses. PHYSICS! PHYSICS! PHYSICS! STABILIZE! STABILIZE! STABILIZE!

I think you are right. You can see the boat begin to rotate in relationship to the pier - the bow begins to swing outward and the port stern hangs up on the pier, shifting the boat in the slings. It then begins to slide forward.

Every time I see one of these videos, I wonder if the poor person who just paid megabucks for one of these things, has to accept a refurbished boat. I think that, if I shelled out that much money, I'd want a new one!
