1.6 ltr seadrive

Lots of great information here i'm steve <br />i have a 84 1.6 seadrive one of the pistons is shot according to the shop the others are fine. not knowing what i am getting into in rebuilding the head myself or should i buy a remanufactured head. the shop said that for them to rebuild the head was 14 hrs (seems much) do you need a physics degree to rebuild these?<br /><br />Thankyou in advance

Welcome!<br /><br />That seems about right to me. Especially if that includes (and it should) doing the carbs, water pump, initial break in, sea trial, etc. Plus any stuck or broken bolts.<br /><br />And -- the most important thing -- finding the cause of the "shot" piston and correcting the cause. <br /><br />You can certianly do it yourself with the help of a good manual. If youre so inclined, go ahead and start removing the powerhead and lower unit. Just remove the powerhead as a "dressed" unit. It's much easier to dress and undress it on the bench rather than while its still on the midsection.<br /><br />Good luck!
