Hello Everyone...
Let me first start by telling you that I purchased a couple of months ago a 1987 Sportcraft 205 Fisherman with an 1987 OMC Seadrive 1.8 (140hp) froma guy in Florida. It was used 50/50 salt and fresh.
The boat came with a 13x19 (13 spline) prop. After I got some bugs out of the controls and motor, it will turn about 5300 rpm and according to the new speedo it was doing 30 mph (Still need to get GPS to really check)..But here is my question(s).
I found a parts manual that shows 15 different props that OMC shows that will work on this motor.
I found a really good deal on two of the props that OMC had listed - 13-3/4 x 15 sst and a 14 x 13 reg alum prop for a possible replacement for the 13x19.
This leaves me with a possible 12 more props that will work... Without going broke on props... I am a newbie to boats and completely green when it comes to props. I have read IBoats prop selection guide (Which is really great, but) And I just scratch my head, cause I have nothing to compare.
IBoats forum has some really great help, all you got to do is a little reading.
But which way do I go or should be looking for?
My second question:
While cleaning boat, I notices under the painted prop... Looks like the alum prop is peeling away on the blades. It looks like really thin pcs are stripping off. I read something about "cavitation burn" if this is what I have, can this or what can I do to prevent this... Or is this a sign the prop is just worn out?
I appreciate any help or advise... Without going broke on buying 12 more different props
Thanks
Jim
