I have a very old 5,5 hp 2-cyl 2-stroke and is about to replace it with a almost new 5 hp 1-cyl 2-stroke. Could somebody please tell me any pros and cons with 1- og 2-cyl?
Low weight is important for me, the same is realibility and easy maintenance, sound and speed is not that important.
Thank you!

2cyl is smoother and has more moving parts. a single is normally more vibrating and has a rougher idle. both have been made for years.

I have used a lot of small 2 stroke engines, Eliassen.

Never had a single cylinder that I really liked or a twin that I didn't like.

My very favorites were CD series Johnsons of the '50s and '60s and their twin model Evinrudes. That may be what you have now.

I found the OMC twins reliable, easy to maintain, easy starting, smooth running.

The worst small engines I had were air cooled singles based on Clinton or Tecumseh mower and chainsaw engines. About the only good thing about them was that they were lighter than the water cooled twins. The best small single I ever had I still have. . . water cooled Sea King 1.5, 1947.

If I had a CD Johnson there is nothing that would part me from it in that size and power range.

The CD I refer to, Indymike, is the series of Johnson engine models that began in about 1954 and were produced well into the 70s. Models CD-10 to CD-21 and beyond.

Eliassen: I would keep your little Evinrude and fix whatever it needs. That was and is one of the best ever made.

Good luck. :)
