so i failed to get my water hose all the way on the nipple passing through the gimble housing last time. got me a kink over it.
if i remember right, i put the hose on the bellhousing first last time. i believe i got the idea from reading the service manual. i've also recently read to put the hose on the gimble housing first, then the bellhousing...
so, which way do you do it, that's easiest for you? whats your favorite lub to use on the inside of the water hose to help get the hose to slide onto the gimle houseing nipple the easiest it possibly can?

one idea i had was to expand the hose for the gimble houseing end. this i've done by having a narrow cone rammed into the hose, expanding it for the last several months...no idea if it will help. but didn't think it would hurt either.... anything to help get that darn hose on is my thinking..

I put it on the transom shield first. Then get it turned to use the natural curve of the hose to your advantage.

I agree... t sheild first.
2 things that will help you out if first to make sure your barks are super clean. Use a dremel with a polishing wheel or wire brush or something to make them all shiney.
secondly... use a water soluable lube on the nipple and on the inside of the hose. I use the stuff that electricians use for cable pulls. It kinda looks like vasilene but it's not petroleum based.
If i get out the garage later i'll get the name of the stuff.

Ayuh,... Plain ole Dishsoap does Wonders...
And,...
Like Don said,.. Watch the spine of the hose, so it don't Twist....

thanks guys. i think i'll go for the transom shield end first this time. can't be any harder than it was having the bellhousing in my way doing it with the hose connected to that end first.

what are barks jj?

for lub i was thinking of using straight dish soap (dawn dishwashing liquid to be exact). last time i used a soap and water mix. that for sure isn't enough lub... i'd be interested in what your using jj. i've pulled a wire or two that needed that electricians lub on it. very slippery stuff... i like the idea of the soap since it won't degrade the rubber and i have some on hand. but if there's something better..... i'd rather use that since i had such a miserable time getting the hose on the last time...

I've always used "Power Tuner", the stuff sprayed in the carbs of 2 stroke outboards to clean the rings etc. spray it inside the hose and on the Barbs and they slide to gether a lot easier
I use it mostly because I have it handy at the shop. Might check your local boat shop and see if they have a can that is almost empty. Empty cans almost always have enough left for 1 hose.
Dish liquid is not near as effective.

Re: 1 drive water hose install ?

barbs. got it and hour or so after i read it... usually i can read through a typo, but guess i was slow this time. anyways, here's how it went.

called me a buddy up. he's pretty darn handy. he felt a more pliable hose would be easier to deal with. so we heat guned the hose till it was warm and rammed a cone in the hose end repeatedly. repeated the process a few time. wedged on it with 2 screwdrivers too, always working the hose wider.
well, i didn't actually put it on the boat. but by the time i got done 'getting ready' to put the hose on, my buddy had it on. said it just slid right on. it's certainly on all the way this time. got the bellhousing end on pretty easy too. so anyways, my bellhousing is on only thing i didn't do was wire the shift cable screw in place and wire tie the small end of the shift cable bellows... so far so good.. hopefully the drive replacement will go as easy as it did last year.. that's what's next...
thanks for the help guys...
