I just purchased a 4 blade stainless prop with a 10 pitch for my 15.5 foot fiberglass bass boat. My motor is a 2000, 40hp, elpto 2cyl, 2 stroke. I was running a 13 pitch 3 blade aluminum and it would never rev over 3800 rpm or plane out. will this prop help? The motor was checked and said to run fine my my local shop, they said it was the prop. Any advice on if this prop will help/work?

If you're pushing a cement hull tug with your entire family aboard, its probably fine. For a wisp of a boat and light load, a resounding no. You need a tach, otherwise, no one has a correct answer. When the mechanic said what he said to you, that would be my last trip to see him. You asked him for help and for some reason, didn't get it. That was a strong indication that he didn't want to fool with prop selection. To find the correct prop to suit your unique need is time consuming, so generally it becomes a casual hit or miss proposition when it comes to many dealers and prop issues. Most boaters settle for one of those "ittle-do" type props the dealer provides without knowing they have settled for anything.

Speaking very generally the 10" prop could add up to 600 rpm. Not enough and it could be less. You need to be at 5,500 rpm.
It will help your hole shot and low to mid range performance.
May reduce top end.Your changing material and design which makes results less predictable. Give it a try.Tell us your max rpm and speed.Describe your performance, hole shot etc.Wouldn't hurt to tell us the brand of boat and weight.
You may want to verify the tach is accurate. It does seem you would need to go a long ways down the prop chart to get 5,500.Your new figures will help tell us
what you need.

I also have the 40 ELPTO on a 16' Tracker DV. The pitch that I have on the boat now is a 10 1/2 X 13 and it is a 3 blade aluminum. I ran WOT at 5200 RPM and was able to go 22mph. The recommended prop for the boat and motor by Tracker is a 10 3/8 X 14. If I go with the recommended prop I will obviously lose 150-200RPM. (I was told that staying withing 1/2" on the diameter doesn't make much of a difference.) It was suggested to me to maybe go with a 11 pitch 4 blade, especially with when adding additional weight. I was only able to go 15mph at 4800RPM with my father on board. I thought this may help as I'm looking for suggestions as well.

My boat is a stratos 258 15.6'. I finally got it to plane out but it was with just my son and I in the boat. With gear and normal fishing partner I would be adding about 300lbs. With the 13 pitch prop max speed was 26 on GPS. Running at 4900RPM. Hole shot to plane took a loooooong time. And a lot of messing with the trim switch to get it to plane. Hope this helps you help me.

I'll assume the boat is a 98 at about 900lbs.Are the gas tank(s) and battery(s) in the stern?Do you move pasasengers forward till you plane?Where is the live well?
With your more reasonable planing rpm (4,900) the 10" 4 blade should get you close to the required rpm and hopefully really help your hole shot. You may have to watch the max rpm but youve got the prop so give it a try.Your speed seems a little slow I think it should be closer to 30 with the light load.I would check that the throttle opens all the way at the carb. The antivent plate just above the prop should be visable on plane. In the extreme raising the motor could net 2 to 3 mph and a slight improvement in hole shot and rpm.
