Hi, I have an engine that was in storage for over 8 years, I took it with the boat.. I could not get any spark out of it.. after checking by the book, I noticed the stator had an open coil so the 180 volts were not being delivered.. I picked up a new stator, now the voltages are right and no spark, and yes the ground from the key is disconnected from the switch box.. My question is this.. I checked the coils, the merc. manual says that for that coil, the primary windings should be around .2 to .4 ohm, yes, I do have that in all 4 coils.. it also says that between the tower and any of the primary terminals, I should have and open cct to the primary.. I have about 1000 ohm in 3 of the 4 and the the 4th one has an open cct which according to the book is good..
could someone please confirm? as for 24 dollar wholesale per coil, and I may get a new switch box.. because of the stator being open with no sign of why..
feedback appreciated,,

sorry forgot to mention, it is an 88 - 4 cyl, with the searay logo on it and has the blue coils, the book said something about red if supplied, but mine are blue. I checked the the voltages with a dvr that measures peak . hope this helps...
Inohv8.
