Hi All,
Just completed rebuilding my 105 Chrysler motor tonight - will start it (hopefully) tomorrow. Would like to thank Frank A, Franz Marine and any others who responded to my questions - you guys are superb. I would definately recommend Franz, sent parts from the states to NZ as promised and the condition of his s/hand exhaust cover plate was like new!!
Check out the photos attached including the close ups of my retrofitted telltale. The Banjo bolted elbow is off a BMW 320 diesel high pressure rail (stainless fitting) the hose is off a 330i and the brass fitting through the engine cover support is off a 318ti manifold. You'd never guess that I worked for BMW!!!

Re: 105 rebuild completed

Went to start the old girl today and noticed that both carbs were leaking when under fuel pressure. Took off the bowls, cleaned the needles and seats AND THEN LOST THE LOWER NEEDLE! Needless to say a few words were uttered that would make the most hardend sailors amongst you blush! So faced with the prospect of waiting another week before starting it and trying to source a new float needle (old chrysler parts are not exactly plentiful in NZ), I scrounged an SU Carb needle off my dad (he services old Jags and Daimlers). I cut it down to size, ground the flats on the sides, filed and polished it, checked the fit and installed my homemade float needle. By now its 3pm, dragged the boat outside, connected the hose and turned the key. Fired first piston up!! Then remembered the choke - fired and ran this time!
Sounds OK, ran it for 20 minutes, got it up to temp and all seems fine. No leaks or death rattles. Got a bit of wiring work to do on the trailer and then its sea trial time!!!

Re: 105 rebuild completed

One of my "Best ever" days. The boat performed amazingly, the old Chrysler never missed a beat (except when I accidentally switched off the ignition!). We launched at Half Moon Bay, went to Motuihe for lunch, had a look at Islington Bay (Rangitoto), the Viaduct Hrabour, Westhaven, the underside of the Harbour Bridge, Birkenhead Point, Chelsea Sugar Works and then back to Half Moon Bay. If all these place names are completely foreign, Google map the names with "New Zealand" and you will get an idea of where I am. Not a bad day considering its only 8 days until winter in NZ!
