I just got my 1988 18' balyiner br with the 2.3l omc cobra stern drive back from the shop. AFter running the boat at WOT for 30 minutes my temp still says 100 (which is closed to pinned a the lower end of the guage). WIth a new impeller would the boat really stay that cold or do I have a broken therm.

And if it is broken does it hurt to run the boat or is that just telling me the temp? Is it an easy replacement? Anyone know where to find the part number? I looked in this websites shop and didn't see a 2.3l engine listed under the OMC Stern drivers section.

Thanks,
Sean

You would have to be running your boat in some pretty cold water to keep the temp at 100 deg. running wide open.
I would suspect my temp gauge before the thermostadt. Unless you are in very cold water.

WOT for 30 minutes? Asking for trouble.

Not so WOT actually - 4600 RPMs - keeping it under redline.
Before my boat went to the shop the thermostat guage did work.
I will worry about it for next season. Now im in the middle of winterizing it.
