hiya all.
i have a 1987 johnson 110 hp ..
it runs great and i love it- however out the other day i got some kelp over the inlets. - now i dont know if my overheat buzzer even works after this episode( how could i check this??!), any way it got hot , and i shut it down- i let it cool and then restarted- it started and ran fine but the top starboard cylinder was really running hot- so i shut it down and limped home on the kicker. on the muffs at home, after changing that plug- it fired up and ran smoothly but that cylinder started to get hotter than the others- so i shut it down.

i always flush it after every use for at least 15 mins. i am sure the mechanics changed the thermostats- need to check my used spare s box first
so where to from here?

Have the water deflectors ever been changed? If you have kept up with the thermostats and impellar the only two items would be the water deflectors (<my bet) or sand silt built up in the water jacket.

Deflectors are easy but will cost you the head gaskets but the deflectors are cheap small pieces of rubber hose.

thanks bob
so can i check for silt when i do the deflectors, i only run in the salt- so i am sure there is some silt , albeit very little, but who knows where the previous owner ran it.
will get onto that today
thanks
