hi i just purchased a boat with a 110 johnson vro on it 1986..put it in the water today and at 1st it would not get up on plain.it would start and then it is she she jumped into neutral and reved up.i eased of on the throttle and put the shifter in netural and the into forward again but had no throttle at all .finally after moving the lever back and forth i got throttle and just before i get up on plain it would just start reving again not engaged in forward..this motor is new to me and i am at a loss as to what is causing this...could it be the shifter/throttle assembly or it it a direct motor issue....thanks

Re: 110 johnson vro

Check for spun prop hub.
With motor off, mark a line on the rubber hub and where it is in contact with prop to register the location. Run boat on the water up & down the rpm range, shut down motor and see if marks still line up.

when i purchased this boat it came with a new prop and hub assembly, you think maybe i should just switch them up to see if that makes a difference or go with the marking..i am running out of summer here in canada lol

Re: 110 johnson vro

If you find the hub in the prop is ok, you may have a shift linkage adjustment issue under the engine cowling.

Re: 110 johnson vro

hi i removed the prop everything is fine with the splines,,checked the linkage for the shifter and throttle cables its all set properly.....but i notice on the shifter if i have it in the neutral position i cant use the maneul throttle lever i have to move it a little toward the forwrd position and then i can use the manuel throttle lever.its still in neutral but not in a locked position..could that have anything to do with it coming out of gear under a load and losing throttle........please help

You can't tell if a hub is spun by looking at it. If you have another prop, put it on and try it.

It takes a lot of torque to make a prop hub slip, you can't do it with your hands. That's why you could could get it to a certain rpm before it would slip.

Glad you got it fixed, happy boating, Take your defective to a prop repair place and have it rehubbed and you will have a spare.
