110V AC Outlet Question

How would I go about adding a 110V AC outlet in my boat...(I am not talking about shore power).

I would like to run a very small 110 ac, and have a spot to plug in other AC gadgets.

Would I need a power inverter for this? Is it possible to run a 110 A/C off of a 110 outlet connected to an inverter or what ever it is I need to make a 110V outlet work on my boat?

Thanks

Yup... like you said you need an inverter... it simply takes in 12V dc from your batteries and puts out 110V ac. Great thing is too that you can divide your current in by about 9 (110/12) to get current out.

I'd go marine grade for robustness in the environment its working in, but dont really know any specific models to look for... others on here might. Heres one that a 15sec google search turned up:

of course it will drain your batteries if you motor's not running. Consider a generator for large loads or when youre moored or overnighting.

Read through this thread:

it's the power draw that is an issue and discussed here. If you HAVE to have an A/C unit on, get a Honda Generator. Runs all day on less than 1 gallon and is so quiet you can talk over it.. in a normal voice.

Re: 110V AC Outlet Question

You will never be able to run an AC off an inverter...at least not for long and the inverter would be extremely expensive for a good sinewave type.. For example, if your ac consumed 10A of current, you would need over 100A draw off your battery.

Be aware that most inverters are rated at 13.8V which is with an engine running. You will need to derate when using at lower volatges(12.6V - 12.0V).

aahhhh... in Air Conditioner... didn't catch that, I thought you just meant a small "Alternating Current" appliance. I agree the best bet would be a generator.
