115 4 stroke water pump replacement -crankcase oil leaking

Why when I remove my lower unit, did crankcase oil leak out?

2013 Mercury 115 hp 4 stroke engine- replacing water pump & removed lower unit, & it started leaking oil. What does this mean & any ideas what to do next? I havent done the water pump replacement yet.....waiting to hear back about this first!!!!! Thank u

I think that is normal.-----Drain oil from engine first.

Where was the oil leaking from? I don't think it's normal unless the powerhead is made of a sponge.

No mention of draining crankcase oil before removing the lower unit in the 115 4 stroke manual at Boatinfo - http://boatinfo.no/lib/mercury/manuals/115.html#/0

The oil was coming out of the Crankcase.....

This was the 1st time the lower unit has ever been taken off, to my knowledge, the motor only has about 10 hrs on it!!

Call a shop that has done some service work on these motors.
