My engine was flooding really bad and, thanks to DJohns advice, I rebuilt the carbs and the motor runs great. However, the fuel starvation horn goes of between 3500 and 4500 RPM. The horn stops at WOT.

Thanks in advance for any help.

J.W. Roberts
Central Florida

Re: 115 Evenrude warning horn

It is a 1993 and I don't know what the S.L.O.W. feature is so I assume I don't have it. I get rapid tones only between 3500 and 4500 RPM and according to my legend, this means that I am experienceing fuel starvation. Yet the engine will max out at 5000 RPM and the horn will not sound.

My original problem was that the engine was flooding badly. I rebuilt the carbs and then this new problem occured.

JW,Not trying to question your response but as far as I know VRO alarms the rapid tones indicate no oil,oil restriction,or air in oil line. Are you using the VRO system or mixing 50:1?

S.L.O.W. is a feature introduced by OMC ,I believe in 94' ,that if the temp sensor detects an overheat ,a continuous alarm is sounded and rpms are electronically limited to 2500.

I also have the VRO fuel restriction alarm on my engine and the alarm is a continuous alarm.
Mine are as follows on a 96 Evinrude

Overheat - continuous alarm and rpms limited to 2500
Fuel restriction - continuous alarm
No oil - rapid short tones
Low oil - short tone every 40 sec.

Re: 115 Evenrude warning horn

Problem solved!!!! I had not adjusted the linkage properly. I guess that about 4000 RPM, one of the throttle valves was not opening enough and the electronics was sensing the reduced fuel flow. But at WOT, both were open so the fuel flow was ok.

ob, you are correct. I had described the tones incorrectly. The sound was so rapid that it indeed was continuous.

By they way, I must have the S.L.O.W. feature because my 93 has the same information on the placard as you have listed.

Thanks for the reply.

Happy boating,
JW Roberts in Central Florida
