i replaced the water pump today on this engine and after running it for a minute the port side head was hot to the touch. i could not touch it more than a second. the starboard head was warm to the touch. i took the hoses loose at the bottom of the heads and there was a full pipe coming out of the right one. the left one had only a dribble. i hooked a water hose up to the left side head and heard water going somewhere. i started it back up but no water out of that side. any ideals? im think of pulling the head but dont know if that will help

Sounds like it may be a problem inside the ports side of the block. A couple of things you can try. Pull off the port head COVER. (not the whole head) Inspect inside the head to see if the passages are able to flow water freely. If they are plugged, you should clean them. If they are open, the next step is to pull the head. You'll want to inspect the passages around the cylinders. Especially check the two rubber water diverters on the side of each cyl. If they are out of location or may have debris by them, water may not be able to circulate properly through that side of the block. A factory service manual is helpful to show proper positioning of these diverters (called deflectors). You can get an idea of the configuration of the block from the factory parts website: epc.brp.com

today i looked at it again and i flushed it back through the head and water flowed back into the exhust housing so i fired it up and at first no water was flowing that side then it started flowing good and the head got pretty warm but them it started cooling off. after about 5 minutes the port head was about 25 degrees hotter than the starboard head you could hold your hand on it about 5 seconds. you could hold your hand on the starboard side all day. and this was at idle. thanks for the replies.

The normal head temp is 143-153 at idle. Borrow/rent a laser temp gun to determine the real head temps till you work throught this overheat issue. 175 degrees is the bottom of the overheat range, and even that's too high for normal running.

If running on muffs, next to normal. Get the lower unit in a barrel or launch the boat and re-test as suggested above with an IR temp gun.

i replaced the t stats and everything is ok. although it is not charging and is there a pin point test to narrow that down?

Go to CDIElectronics.com and look up the procedures.
