I'm starting a rebuild on a 1994 evinrude 115 inboard (Seaswirl Squirt with a jet). I need a crankshaft and have an oportunity to pick up a 78 V4 115 crank new for a good price. My research shows that a rebuild kit may cover back to that vintage. Can anybody enlighten me on crank interchange for this 115JEER.

Dirk

The part numbers are not the same for 1978 and the numbers do not chain in the price book.

The 93 and up 90 degree v4 cranks have a removable wear sleeve at the PTO end. The seal part# is the same, and splining is the same, 78 should have the big center main. May work, but I havent tried. I do know the looper v4 cranks had a similar change in 93, and will interchange with each other. This is anecdotal though, as I havent tried this with the crossflow motors like yours.

Yes you can get around the issue of the different bottoms on the cranks but the 78 has a small center main and you need one with the large center main.

If you cant find one let me know, I may have the one you need.

Good luck!
