i need to repower my 1970 glastron gt 150 rated for 90 hp but might be able to get my hands on a 115 evinrude 2 stoke. i checked online and also from past experience i believe the motors are built on the same block therefore being the same weight around 300 lbs. i am thinking i should be ok as long as i don"t crack the thotle open to fast stessing the transom. i"m bet it will go like hell to, but i would like some input from other experienced boaters. thank you all. keykev...........

We have heard every excuse and rationalization to OVERPOWER a boat, keykev. Do not do it.

Well you will get some people saying that the USCG guidlines are blahblah. What year is the 115 as they did change the HP ratings at some point in time.I would post this questions on the dedicated classicglastron.com site or the one on here listed near the bottom of the main forum page. If it was me I would make sure your transom is solid and then glass in two knee braces. Power Cats are rated for 110 and with the knee braces installed many owners are putting 150's on them. NO problems.

The Coast Guard could care less what HP motor you put on your boat. But the insurance companies would take you to the cleaners if you were ever involved in an accident. And it wouldn't matter if it was you fault or not.

Just remember that the boat in the Bond picture had an OMC 130 on it! On the Glastron site there are several 15 foot boats with Merc 115s on them. My V 153 (rated for 90 like the GT 150) has a 105 on it and performs quite well--handles with no nastiness and tops out at 45--same as with the 90-- but gets there much faster.

I say "go for it" but be careful. Personally, I am restoring a GT 150 and it is destined to have a 140 on it. Generally, if in good shape, the hull and transom on these boats will handle the power. Also generally, it is the nut behind the wheel that causes all of the problems.

BTW: The avatar is my V153 with the 105 on it. And here are a couple more photos.
