I realize this is not an outboard but same powerhead.I have a 95 turbojet model 115tjeoa,but the block is a flat back, dual aluminum carbs.I was wondering if it is a true x flow 115 or is it a 90 hp that the previous owner swapped in.The only serial number visable is the qtr size plug on port side 394451.Or could it be an older 115 block that was swapped in?

Likely the model number is E115TLEOA. This represents the 115 hp bubble-back, crossflow engine. The powerhead was probably changed at some point, since the flatback engine is also a crossflow, the lower hp version-probably a 90 hp. It bolts right up in place of the original 115 hp engine. The 394451 is not a serial number, but actually a legitimate OMC part number. Description: PWHD SEA DR 84-86 You have a model number that does not match the actual powerhead number or year.

That's what I was afraid of.The model number is on the lower hull by jet drive. It is a 115tjeoa serial 03850082.The parts I ordered thus far do fit.Head gaskets, voltage regulator, thermostats, valve body etc.Which from my understanding the 90 is basically the same engine. Is there any numbers on the block to know for sure what I have?Could it be an older eighties crossflow 115?

Many different years would fit.----Those V-4 blocks were very similar as far as " fit -up " is concerned.

You may have luck determining the exact type of engine. There is a casting plug that sits atop the engine. Probably painted over, but it has the model and serial number stamped from the factory. See attached. Problem is that if it's a warranty/replacement powerhead, it may not have much good information. But it's worth a look. This is a pic of a 1975 135 casting plug

Is it still possible to be a 115 even though it is a flat back?

Some of the older 115's were flatbacks. Model year 1984 and prior. Those were hp rated at the crank and made 10-12% less hp than a prop-rated 1995 115 hp powerhead. You can have a look at the throat size of the carbs. That may tell you something. If it's got the large 1 5/16" carbs, those would probably have been from the original 95 115 hp block. The size is cast into the front flange of the carb face.

I cleaned the welch plug on top of port side cylinder and came up with 394451 rph which indicates a replacement block.I didn't see the size of carbs on the mounting flange. The carb tags are still there which are 393771 and 393772.If the replacement block is a 115 but put a flat back on it what would that make it on hp rating?

I had to pull bottom carb to replace primer hose and it says on both 1 3/16 carbs. So I must have a 90hp.
