I have a 1985 115hp in line 6 cyl. Mercury that is still a mystery. There is NO PROBLEM WITH FUEL DELIVERY OR VENTING. I may be grasping at straws because of all the parts that have been replaced such as, stator, switch boxes, good compression check, good spark, and fuel pump rebuild. Could a problem in the ignition switch cause the motor to bog down after a few minutes. The mechanic still thinks it is an electrical problem, but can not find it. Please help. I NEED TO FISH!!!!

always best to add to old thread and not start a new one so folks can see history...<br />have you tried pumping the primer bulb when it bogs down?

I talked to the mech last night and he said the primer bulb stays hard. He re-doing all his diagnostic checks again. He mentioned the high speed coil. Tell me if I'm wrong but I thought a coil can check out when tested and still fail under load conditions.

BigDog, Coils can certainly fail under load. I had a motorcycle coil partially fail, such that I could go no faster than 30 MPH, or I had no spark. Whether your OB has this issue is another matter. While I am sure there are ways to test a coil under simulated load, usually the decision is to swap in a known good coil. Easy for a shop to have these on hand, not so easy for us DIY'ers
