I have a 1992 115 that has a small hair line crack in the lower unit nose cone housing. It is on the very back edge by the prop. Can this be fixed anyway? I have been told it can be arch welded and it will last forever. What causes these cracks? I have an 84 115-Can I swap lower units on the two engines? Does any have a lower unit or know where I can get one?
Thank You in advance.

Happens because of corrosion. I have seen them welded but not sure of the longevity of the repair. Hard to weld to start with due to the silicone content of the metal.Eventually they split open and shuck all of the parts into the water if not repaired.
Yes , they will interchange with any other two cycle V-4 Yamaha.
