115 Merc prop blowout?????

I recently bought a 1993 18.5' skeeter with a merc 115 it has a laser II quick silver prop part number 16994 A40 24p My cav plate it approx 1/2 inch above bottom of hull, However when I take off @ WOT it will come about half way up on plane then lose forward bite and RPMs shoot to about 5800. It will not plane until I back off then baby it out of the hole. When I have anyone else in the boat w/me IT WILL NOT PLANE please help. I am also posting this question in the prop and setup boards thanks to all and happy boating.

Does your boat have the step on the transom? Is the motor 1/2 above that step, or about the very bottom of the boat? <br /><br />It sounds to me that the motor is sitting to high, I think that if you pull the bolts and drop it down a notch, you will fix your problem.
