115 Merc trim pin question

Hi, I have a 84 115 Mercury with power TNT. Somehow the trim pin fell out and was laying on the ground. the question I have is which holes does it go back in. I can put it in the holes closed to the hull because it interferes with the ram. I tried it I the holes above that but It to tilted then. I know it had to go somewhere, and do I even need to have it in at all.

You do not need it. Just make sure you don't tilt the motor all the way down, where the motor gouges the boat.

Alternatively, is there no way to install it into the first hole? Tilt the motor up to move the rams?

Thank you. I'll try tilting again to see if it goes in. But as long as I don't need it I'm not to worried about it. Thank you again.
