Re: 115 Ram ficht
Heavy sooting is normal. Cleaning them is not advised. They have a tiny pad on the hook electrode that can become dislodged and fall off while wire brushing or gapping. If the pad goes, it runs bad. You can use a toothbrush to clean them, but don't use a wire brush.
There is a prodecure that may also help. Mark each sparkplug where the opening is (directly opposite of where the ground electode hook attaches). You'll need to see the mark once the sparkplug is installed. A Sharpie mark on the porcelin does well. The motor might run better if the mark faces anything but towards the exhaust ports. The theory is to allow incoming air to blow some of the carbon off. If the hook blocks the blow, carbon can fill-in behind it. You can almost always shuffle the sparkplugs around so that they all have favorable positions.
