I have 115 horse Yamaha, oil enjected. When I bought the boat it did not have an external oil tank. It ran fine off the tank in the engine. After sending it in to have the carbs worked on, I got it back and seemed to have an oiling problem. At quarter to three quarter throttle it would run fine, at full throttle it would run for ten to fifteen minutes and then go into safe mode. I would pull the center off the oil tank, turn it upside down and shake it, reinstall it and it would run fine for ten to fifteen minutes at full throttle. Does anybody have any answers to my problem???

Thanks!!

Re: 115 yahama oil problems

I would suggest you go on EBayMotors.Com and sign into the boat parts. You'll have to do some filtering to get to the Yamaha boat parts. I see these big oil tanks quite often for sale. You really need to be using the complete oil system.

A signal was received that the oil level in your small oil tank is low, and your motor went into a fail safe mode to protect it. You may have a bad float, which is in the top of the small oil tank with the wire coming out of it. The float's purpose is to signal the big oil tank to pump oil to it--and it cuts off the oil supply when the tank is full.

If a new float doesn't solve your problem, you'll need to purchase an oil injection module--about a $240 item (last time I had to buy one.) It's on the side of the head under the little oil tank.

The Yamaha 115 hp 2 stroke is a bulletproof engine when properly taken care of. Mine is 26 years old--one of the first Yamaha's on the U.S. market.

Not to say it isn't a problem but the motor ran great with out the big oil tank . I changed the float gauge thinking it was the problem . My thought it now that with a new one the oil it self is giving a wrong reading . What kind of oil should I use or does it even matter .. thanks
