Hi i am trying to time my 1970 115 merc. This is probably a stupid question but in the book it says to aim the timing light at the straight line mark. Would that be the 3 punch marks in a row. That is the only thing i see that is in a straight line

Re: 1150 flywheel timing mark

Check it yourself is best. Check to see that the TDC mark (0 degrees) is correct by feeling the #1 pison when rocking it. The only other mark you need is 21 degrees before TDC for max advance. You can count the teeth, and bearing in mind a flywheel is 360 degrees - with a little basic math MAKE a 21 degree mark if you need to. Err to the side of caution (less advance).
