My 1970 1150 turned out to have bad compression in cylinder #1, a result of a bad impeller, block cooling passage ways and/or running lean on carb 1. I pulled the powerhead apart and that piston was melted. I'm having that cylinder rebored for the .015 oversized pistion. I have some questions:
All 6 pistons have 3 rings. I was expecting 2 rings. Can someone point me to the right part number for rings on the 5 pistons that I'm going to re-use.
Also, I have read that getting the piston/crank assembly into the block is tough. Does anyone have a picture of the set-up they use to accomplish this feat?
I have also read that read that some people will install the piston first and then the crankshaft, inserting the needle bearings as they go. Is it necessary to use new needle bearings if I go this route?
Thanks.
Jim
