115ETlf- pickup timing mark under flywheel?

This is going to be the end of my bulging disc!

Is the timing mark for the pickup on the underside of the flywheel? There is a Cyl 4 timing mark on top, but I think I feel some sort of mark underneath that seems to be in a more appropriate position. The manual shows the pointer and the mark, and it appears upon thought to be on the underside.

Many thanks- hopefully these basic questions will end shortly.

nope
there is a TDC mark on the flywheel and a pointer fwd and slightly to port.
the pickup timing is the point at which the throttle roller picks up on the throttle cam. most V yamahas have the same timing for both idle and pickup, not all but most.

The mark to set the timing itself is on the underside of the flywheel. As rodbolt said the pickup timing mark is on the throttle cam.

Re: 115ETlf- pickup timing mark under flywheel?

Thanks, I think I've got it.

The idle timing is 5ATC (full retard) as measured with pointer on top of flywheel
The full advanced is 25BTDC
I did these with timing light

The carb pickup timing is set with the pointer at 4 ATDC (on top of flywheel) and the mark on the pulser arm aligned with the mark under the flywheel. Then set mark on cam.
I did this static- with engine off

Sound correct?
