I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on rebuilding the carbs on my 98 115HP V4 Crossflow. I have the OEM service manual which described the procedure, and in several places, it refers to special tool 317002 (OMC Orifice Driver) which apparently removes the high speed and intermediate orifices. Also, it tells you to set the float level by inverting the carburetor body and using an OMC Gauge 324891. Are these tools necessary to do the job? Is there a way around them?

I've been reading other posts on iBoats and people mention that they allow the carburetor to sit in a tub of cleaner overnight. The OEM manual says not to do this - rather use a brush and compressed air.

I'd appreciate any advice anyone can give me before I start this task.

Thanks in advance!

Kent

Jade,

I do not like telling you that you do not need the tools. The OMC folks would not have specified them if they did not feel it was important.

With that said, I do not see why you need the orifice tool unless you plan on removing them. For a rebuild/cleaning you should not need to. You should be able to see that they are clean.

The float should lie flat or parallel with the carb body when viewed from the side and inverted (up side down).
