I'm about to buy a 1998 Four Winns Fling for $4200US ($6000 CAD) and I'm just wondering if this is a good price. Also what are some things that I should look for. I could not start it so I'm buying this on his word. He says there is nothing wrong with it what so ever. They seem like trustworthy people but you never know. Is the OMC TurboJet 115hp a good engine? I hear that they have problems overheating from picking up sand, weeds, dirt and shells into the cooling system. What does a SEA Strainer look like? DO these boats come with it? Can I start this boat out of water? If yes, where do I attach the hose? This forum was a life saver when I needed help with my 50HP Merc. So I would just like to thank everyone for that. So if anyone is intrested in a 1976 Peterbourgh 15 foot with a perfect running 50HP Merc and trailer, please email me at mleroyer@videotron.ca I'm selling it for $1500 Canadian but that is only if you mention that you saw it on the iBoats forum. In the local paper it's going for $1900 Canadian. Anyway back to the new boat. If you can give me some input on the four winns fling that would be awsome. Thanx

Re: 115hp TurboJet OMC Four Winns Fling

Seems like a fair price for a 1998, but I would want to take it out on the water before I handed over the cash. The turbojet is basically the same as a 115 OMC outdrive powerhead. It was fairly reliable. I just bought a 94 that needs an engine rebuild. I have found tons of these with bad engines in the 95 and 95 years, so beware of that. Seems that the most common issues revolve around the oil injector stopping working and not getting proper lubrication to all cylinders. Most commonly the top right one goes bad. I plan on premixing my gas and getting rid of the injector completely. It will be a pain in the butt, but much easier than rebuilding the engine again. Lots of people have problems with the overheatine also, but your inline filter should stop that. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. It is important to know, though, that these boats don't go nearly as fast as most jet boats, and not nearly what you would expect from a 115hp. 35-40 MPH (not sure what that is in KPH) is about all they are good for. My opinion though is that they are a well built boat and fun to use. My last boat was a SeaDoo Speedster, and I will say this, I wish I still had it and not this Fling. The speedster was MUCH faster and better built for fun. The only thing I like better about the Fling, and I mean THE ONLY THING, is that it has a swim platform. Good luck. If you can't go to the boat and check it out, call the local marina and see what it would cost to have a mechanic give you a clean bill on it before you buy. You don't want a bad surprise.
