I have read many of each of your posts, and learned alot, thanks. I have a 98 115spl and the voltage at wot can get up to 16-18 volts. I dont like this and I read in a post info about adding a regulator to this motor. Napa #18-5743 or a OMC regulator.(part number unknow to me) Is the install of this something you can describe to me. Thanks for your help or to any one else.

Your motor already has a water cooled voltage regulator, part number 585195, which costs around $82. It's on the top aft of the cylinder block and you have to remove the flywheel and stator to access it.

I cant debate this with seahorse because I dont know much but even my owners manual and the clymers manual say a 6-9amp unregulated system. Is it possible the wiring harness is there to add this regulator. Also I have a new stator and rectifer installed.

DPG5,

All the crossflow 115 V4's for 1998 have regulators according to the parts book. Give me your complete model number as many times the owner has the wrong year. You can't always trust a Clymer's manual as they try to cram many models and years into one book, and sometimes their information is out of date.

Look at the top of the block right behind the crank and kind of under the flywheel. Is there simply a cover there or a box with wires?

Re: 115spl how to add volt reg. Dhadley?Schematic?

My engine model number is 115TSLECM, serial number G 04451936, date of manufacture 12/1997. There is no "box with wires" under the fly wheel. Standing at the rear of the engine a box is located on the top left side, this box is well away from the fly wheel. The only wires I see under the fly wheel are the stator and the timmer base. All other "boxes" appear to be just termanial conection covers. Thanks for the reply's and keep them comming.

So youre saying that there is only a cover on the top center of the block with 8 bolts in it. In that case you do not have a regulator. The rectifier is a small round piece on the starboard side near the terminal board.

You can install the reg/rec. All you have to do is get one, remove the rectifier you have and wire in the new one.

Good luck!

Sounds good to me, but off of what year and model of motor would I be looking for this reg/rectifer. Will this replace my current rectifer or be an additional part. I guess this won't hurt my stator?? Hate to be a pest but my local dealer will not help if this is not the part for this exact motor. Thankyou

A reg/rec from any crossflow will work. The looper ones wont fit in the hole. One from a 35 amp system will work as well as the 10 amp.

Good luck!

I stand corrected. The TSL model has a rectifier only, no regulator. I didn't read all the footnotes on the computerized parts catalog. You can easily add one, get the number from my first post, and remove the original rectifier. Sorry about that, and yes, you have a 1998 model motor.

Re: 115spl how to add volt reg. Dhadley?Schematic?

do I kneed to make any other wiring changes? I noticed on the terminal board on the motor the yellow striped and grey wire have a jumper in between them. With the old unregulated system the grey, and the purple didnt have any thing connected to them and the new regulator has these additional wires. Just dont want to melt anything, thanks.

Dpg5 I have a wiring diagrahm showing the difference between the regulated and unregulated systems.

I tried to add it to this posting but don't know how to do it.

The regulated system has two extra wires a purple and a grey one.

you may e mail me and I will try to email you the wiring diagrahm
bruno@exp.net

If I'm not mistaken ,the purple wire with your regulator is for "keyed" 12 volts and the gray wire is for a tach lead.
