I have a older 12' 54" beam, with three large horizontal benches. I have seen boats with 2 parallel benches with storage at the rear. Is this a more efficient and comfortable seating arrangment, and could my boat be converted in the backyard?.
Hello Wind Knot
What I recently did to my 16 foot aluminum boat was to add a seat side (bass pro shops had it) that is 33 inches long and a padded seat on a swivel. I can turn the seat so I can sit more comfortably while I drive the boat from the tiller handle and can move the seat around to better balance things if needed, especially while fishing from it. All total it cost me $75.oo and took about 60 minutes to install. Also does wonders for the back to have something to lean against.
Thanx for the ideal Seadogg, but we don't have chain type fishing stores, in my neck of the woods.I really would like to know if anyone prefers side bench style, to cross bench?.
Ahoy, SK.

In many small boats, the thwart seats are essential to hull rigidity. Taking this away would result in excessive hull flex and loosened rivets. Be sure you don't weaken you hull with any mods you make.

Good luck.
