Some of you may not know about this little book...

The12-VoltBibleforBoats2ndEdition.gif

An extremely valuable tool for any small boat owner. One of the best things about it is it teaches you the basics of a MULTIMETER, one of the most important tools on your boat...

What is does is it empowers you to do your own trouble-shooting and your own diagnoses..as well as how to properly wire your boat!

This should be required reading for any small boat owner. The savings alone will pay for this book 200 times over...trust me, when I do electrical work on a customers boat, he pays...gladly!

If one would read the user manual that comes with most decent meters that would help as well.

Silvertip,
That is absolutely correct, although the Chinese to English translation can confuse some...

This is a true story. I was out in my shop this evening, my phone rang, and it was a customer of mine. "Bob, I go to start my generator and nothing happens!"...

"George, did you turn on the Generator battery switch?"

"Never mind..."

Lord all effin mighty...

BTW, I had him start it and put a load on it (water heater) so I could hear she was running alright...

I think half the battle with any electrical work but particularly 12 volt work is that people psyche themselves out before they even start. Electrical items need a power source, a ground, a switch and some type of fuse. It's not too complicated if you just work slow and think stuff through. I actually find electrical work somewhat therapuetic because it causes me to concentrate on the job at hand and keeps my mind from wandering.

Very well put...ground issues can be a lot of fun sometimes, but logic always prevails...
