12 volt generator

I picked up a chinese Kipor (Champion) 1000w from Canadian-Tire for trolling motor battery charging.On sale they were cheap enough,and with the 6.7 Cummins, you should avoid idling. They have an 12volt 5amp output but nothing in their owners manual about battery charging. Is it automatic or do I have to put a regulator in to protect the battery.

If it states it has a 12v circuit for charging, then the regulator is built in already. I have used my cheap Chinese generator to charge batteries for a couple of years now with no problems at all..but yes, it has the regulator built into it.
