12' won't plane

I got a 12' aluminum v-hull with an envirude 8hp motor, the boat is moderately heavy (the old man put decks in) the engine has good compression great idle and throttle response. What would cause the boat not to plane? Even with just one person under 200 pounds it almost gets there but won't do it.. I've been told mixed things, that it's the motor (possibly carb) but also it could be the trim.. Any suggestions?

Try moving weight forward...or leaning??? I'm thinking you're leaning towrd being underpowered with 8hp...everything needs to be perfect. Trim/carb/old gas/spark all are at issue.

Re: 12' won't plane

From my experience, a 12foot boat is even harder to plane than a 14' boat. If the decks were removed and the weight were distributed properly, I think it would plane with just one person under 200 lbs. The good news is that once it planed, the 8hp would get enough rpms to actually make the full 8hp and go along at a nice clip. Weight is a real killer on small outboards, particularly on a short boat.
